The Elmira Sugar Kings are pleased to announce the return of Alex Kyriacou for the 2026-27 season.

The towering 6’5” left-shot defenceman returns after recording 3 goals, 6 assists, and 77 penalty minutes in 44 games last season. Alex brings a physical edge and imposing presence to the Sugar Kings’ blue line, making him a difficult player for opponents to play against.

After making the jump to junior hockey last season, Alex continued to improve with every game and established himself as a dependable force on the back end. The coaching staff is excited to see him build on that progress and take another significant step forward this season.

Head Coach Cory McRae is excited to have Kyriacou back on the blue line.

“As the season went on last year, Alex adjusted to the pace of junior hockey extremely well and became a standout on our back end. His size, physicality, and ability to defend make him a tough player to play against, and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to grow into one of the league’s top shutdown defencemen this season.”

A left-shot defenceman from North Bay, Ontario, Sam returns looking to make a strong impact after an injury-plagued season limited his ability to contribute consistently. Healthy once again, he is determined to have a bounce-back year and provide the steady defensive play, physicality, and puck-moving ability that have made him a valuable member of the Sugar Kings’ blue line. Away from the rink, Sam will also be beginning his first year as a full-time student at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Last season was frustrating for him with a few unfortunate injuries, but his commitment and determination never changed.
